Help — how it works
This page gathers everything you need to get the most out of GameCompil: playing freely, creating an account, and making sense of high scores, leaderboards and trophies. If you would rather know who we are first, head to the About page.
Playing without an account
No game asks you to sign in: pick a game, hit “Play”, and you are off. In anonymous mode your best score on each game is remembered on the device you are using. That is perfect for working through the collection, but those high scores do not follow you from one device to another and never appear in the public leaderboards.
Creating an account (magic link, no password)
To go further, create a free account. The idea is deliberately simple: you enter your email address, you receive a sign-in link, and one click signs you in. No password to invent and none to remember, so nothing to forget and nothing to steal. Once signed in you can import the high scores you already set anonymously: only your best score on each game is kept, with no duplicates.
High scores and leaderboards
Your high score is your best result on a given game. Depending on the game, a good score means a high points total (brick breaker, space shooter) or, on the contrary, the shortest possible time (sudoku, minesweeper, sliding puzzle). Leaderboards follow automatically, and come in several periods: all-time for the best of all time, monthly and weekly so the slate is wiped regularly and newcomers get their shot. Find them on the leaderboards page.
Trophies
Trophies reward your feats, game by game: reaching a score tier, stringing a streak together, going flawless, beating the clock. Each trophy unlocks only once, and unlocking it is dated and final. That is one more reason to come back — chasing the next trophy rather than only the next score. Your trophies are gathered on the trophies page.
Favourites
Like a game? Add it to your favourites from its page with the star, and find it again in a glance. Your favourites follow your account while you are signed in, or stay on your device in anonymous mode.
Fair leaderboards
So the tables keep their meaning, every score sent to a leaderboard is checked on the server: we make sure it stays within the plausible limits of the game in question. That check protects the leaderboards from cheating without changing anything about the way you play. An honest score is always accepted; plainly impossible attempts are turned away.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need an account to play on GameCompil?
- No. Every game is available straight away in anonymous mode, and your best scores are kept on your device. The free account exists only to sync your high scores, enter the leaderboards and unlock trophies.
- How do I sign in without a password?
- GameCompil uses a magic link: you enter your email address, you receive a sign-in link, and one click signs you in. There is no password to create and none to remember, and your email address is the only personal data processed.
- What happens to my local high scores when I create an account?
- When you sign in, you can import the high scores saved on your device into your account. Only your best score on each game is kept, with no duplicate created: you lose none of your anonymous progress.
- How do the leaderboards work?
- Every game has its own leaderboards, built from the best high scores of signed-in players. They run over several periods — all-time, monthly and weekly — so a newcomer still stands a chance of topping the week.
- Why is my score missing from the leaderboard?
- Only scores from signed-in players are ranked, and every score is validated on the server to keep the leaderboards fair. An anonymous score stays on your device; sign in and play to make the table.
