How leaderboards work
GameCompil leaderboards read two ways. The overall ranking sorts every player by their total trophy points, across all games: it is the broadest measure of progress on the site, and the only way to climb it is to unlock achievements, in any game. The by-game view instead shows the best scores title by title, so you can place your performance on one specific game rather than across the whole catalogue.
Every by-game leaderboard opens on three time windows. The all-time view keeps the best performances ever set: it rewards settled mastery and moves slowly. The monthly and weekly views only keep the scores played during the current window, which resets the counters regularly and leaves a real chance to a player starting today. Depending on the game, the best score is the highest or the lowest one: a solving time, for instance, ranks the other way round from a points score.
Only signed-in players appear in the leaderboards, for a simple reason: without an account a score belongs to nobody and stays stored in your browser. Signing in goes through an email link, with no password, and the identity shown here is the nickname you pick, never your email address.
Every score is checked on the server before it is ranked. Each run is opened with a signed token, and a score that falls outside the bounds of the game it claims is rejected: the leaderboard only reflects performances that were really played. Finally, finishing first in the monthly leaderboard of a game earns you Champion status, marked for good on your nickname in the tables.
