About this game
Néon Bubble is a bubble shooter played on the ocean floor, in glowing bioluminescent depths. A colony of pearls hangs from the ceiling in a hexagonal grid — rows of 9 and 8 pearls offset like a stack of marbles. At the bottom, your cyan nautilus carries the pearl to fire and shows the next one. Slide a finger or the mouse to aim: a dotted line draws the path, wall bounces included, then tap (or release) to fire. On a keyboard, ← and → set the angle (from 6° to 174°), Space or ↑ fire, and P or Esc pause. Five pearl colours are in play, each with its own symbol at the centre — dot, cross, wave, star, spiral — so it stays readable even with colour blindness. The basic rule is the genre’s own: three pearls of the same colour or more touch, the group blooms and scores 10 points per pearl. But here you race the clock. You start with 140 seconds, counted down from your first move, and time is only won by drops: when a bloom cuts a cluster’s link to the ceiling, the detached pearls fall (20 points each), and if there are at least three of them they pay 3 seconds per pearl, up to 30 seconds per drop. Chain drops shot after shot and the streak climbs: up to +25% time and +50% points for each drop already in the streak, over four drops. The clock never goes above 200 seconds, turns red and pulses under 10 seconds, and ticks through the last 5. A colour that disappears from the screen never comes back: no more pearls of that shade to fire, and no new row of that colour, until the screen is cleared. A gauge at the top of the screen shows the colours still in play. A cleared screen pays 1,000 points times its number, plus extra time (45 seconds on screen 1, then 40, 34, 28 and 22), before a new screen arrives with every colour back. The screens get tougher: screen 1 is a welcome screen with 3 colours and 3 rows; screen 2 moves to 4 colours and 4 rows; screen 3 to 5 colours and 5 rows; screen 4 to 6 rows; screen 5 and beyond keep 5 colours and 6 rows, with the smallest time bonus. The ceiling adds pressure too: every few shots, a new row comes down. The gap between two descents depends on the screen — 20 shots before the first descent on screen 1, 14 on screen 2, 9 on screen 3, 7 on screen 4, 6 after that — and shortens by one shot every two descents, down to a floor of 12, 8, 5, 3 and then 3 shots. The game ends in one of two ways: time runs out, or the colony reaches the seabed, below the red line above your nautilus. Néon Bubble is free in your browser, on desktop and mobile alike. How to play
Fire pearls from your nautilus to bloom groups of three or more matching colours and cut clusters loose, to win time and chain screens before the clock runs out.
Game rules
- A colony of pearls in five colours hangs from the ceiling in a hexagonal grid. Your nautilus, at the bottom, carries the pearl to fire and shows the next one.
- Aim by sliding: the dotted line shows the path, wall bounces included. Tap or release to fire.
- Three or more touching pearls of the same colour bloom (10 points per pearl). Pearls no longer linked to the ceiling fall (20 points each).
- The clock starts at 140 seconds. A drop of at least three pearls gives back 3 seconds per pearl (30 at most per drop); time never goes above 200 seconds.
- Once a colour has disappeared from the screen, it does not come back until the screen is completely cleared.
- Clearing the screen pays 1,000 points per screen number plus time; a new, harder screen arrives with every colour back.
- Every few shots, a new row comes down from the ceiling.

How a run ends
There is no final victory: the game has two endings. Either time runs out ("TIME’S UP!"), or the colony reaches the seabed, below the red line ("THE COLONY HIT THE FLOOR"). Either way, your score is the total of points scored; clearing a screen raises it and gives you time to carry on.
Tips & strategy
Use the bounces
The pearl bounces cleanly off the walls. Aim at a wall on purpose to slip a pearl into a hard-to-reach corner and complete a group hidden at the sides.
Go for clusters
Only drops of at least three pearls give time back: a plain bloom of three does not. Blooming the pearls that hold a cluster to the ceiling brings it down in one go, and that is what keeps you alive.
Chain the drops
Every drop that follows another, shot after shot, adds 25% to the time won and 50% to the points, over four drops in a row. A shot that causes none breaks the streak.
Trust the symbols
Each colour carries a central symbol. If you hesitate between two close shades, look at the symbol rather than the colour so you do not waste a shot on the wrong group.
Did you know?
The bubble shooter was born with Puzzle Bobble, also known as Bust-a-Move, released by Taito in arcades in 1994. It starred Bub and Bob, the dinosaurs from Bubble Bobble, firing bubbles at a ceiling of colours.
The genre owes its staying power to bank-shot aiming and satisfying cascades: easy to grasp, hard to master. It became a pillar of online puzzle gaming and inspired countless free versions in the browser.
