About this game
Néon Tower Defense is a tower defence game — the great classic of the genre — dressed in a polished retro-neon skin and built to play with a mouse or a finger. The idea is crisp and deeply strategic: a glowing path snakes across the map, and waves of enemies walk it tirelessly towards your base at the end of the run. Your mission: stop them getting there. To do it you have buildable slots dotted around the path, on which you place neon turrets that fire automatically at any enemy passing within range. Three turret types, three complementary roles. The FAST turret, cheap, spits a stream of small shots at a high rate over a medium range: perfect for melting the fragile, quick enemies. The CANNON, expensive and slow, deals heavy damage per shot over a short to medium range: essential for punching through armoured enemies that soak up everything else. The ICE turret slows a whole area of enemies at once while chipping away at their health: placed well, it buys your other turrets the time to do the work. Every enemy destroyed pays you money, the key resource: you spend it building new turrets, but also UPGRADING the ones already placed — each level raises their range and power — or SELLING a badly placed one to recover part of your investment. The whole art of the game lies in those decisions: which type to place, where, when to upgrade rather than expand, how to split your means between the start and the end of the path. Between waves, a short breather lets you reorganise your defence; a "next wave" button lets you launch the assault as soon as you are ready, or the wave starts on its own after a delay. The difficulty climbs in carefully dosed steps: every wave brings more enemies, tougher and a little faster, and gradually introduces the quick runners and then the armoured tanks. If an enemy reaches your base you lose a life; when your lives are gone, the run is over. Your score is the number of waves you survived: clean, readable, perfect for going one wave further. The controls work for touch as much as for the mouse: tap a free slot to open the build menu and pick your turret, tap a turret already placed to upgrade or sell it, and tap elsewhere to close the menu. Every shot, every enemy explosion and every build comes with bright neon feedback and a discreet synthesised cue, over a strategy soundtrack whose tension rises as the enemies close on your base. Turrets, enemies and shots are told apart by shape and position as much as by colour, so they stay perfectly readable with colour blindness. How to play
Defend your base by placing and upgrading turrets along a path to stop waves of ever tougher enemies.
Game rules
- A path winds across the map: the enemies follow it, wave after wave, to reach your base.
- Put your turrets on the buildable slots around the path; they fire automatically at anything in range.
- Choose from three types: the FAST turret, cheap and high rate of fire against fragile enemies; the CANNON, expensive and slow but devastating against armour; and the ICE turret, which slows an area down and chips away at health.
- Every enemy downed pays money, to reinvest in building, upgrading a turret’s range and power, or selling it off.
- Between waves you get a breather to reorganise your defence, then you launch the next wave yourself when you are ready.
- The difficulty climbs: more enemies, faster or tougher, from quick runners to big soaking tanks.

How a run ends
Every enemy that reaches your base costs you a life; when your lives are gone, the run is over. There is no final victory: your score is the number of waves you manage to survive.
Tips & strategy
Work the bends in the path
Enemies stay in range longer around corners and loops. Concentrate your strongest turrets near those bends: they land far more shots per target than they would on a straight.
Mix your turret types
No single type is enough on its own. Put an ice turret down to slow a group, then let the cannons hit the pinned armour while the fast turrets finish off the fragile ones: that combination is what holds against mixed waves.
Upgrade rather than multiply
Two weak turrets cover an area badly. On a well-placed key slot, upgrading an existing turret for more range and power usually beats scattering new ones about with no concentration of fire.
Did you know?
Tower defence has its roots in custom maps for the real-time strategy games of the 1990s and 2000s, notably the "maze" mods for StarCraft and above all Warcraft III, where players built towers to block waves of creatures. The genre later broke out into games of its own.
Titles such as "Desktop Tower Defense" in 2007, playable in the browser, and then "Plants vs. Zombies" in 2009 took the genre mainstream. Its balance of thoughtful placement, resource management and rising wave tension made it a pillar of web and mobile gaming.

- If the slot covers the path poorly, sell the turret to get part of its cost back and rebuild somewhere better, typically near a bend. If the position is good but the power falls short against a wave, upgrading is almost always better value than a second turret alongside it.
