About this game
Néon Starship is a horizontally scrolling arcade shoot ’em up in a polished retro-neon skin, in the great tradition of the scrolling space shooters that marked the golden age of the arcades, reworked with a bright modern style and a feel built for 60 frames per second. You fly a ship of light that "advances" to the right while the neon scenery streams past in multi-layered parallax, faster and faster. The idea is crisp and playable one-handed: your cannon FIRES BY ITSELF forward at a steady rate — your job is to move in all four directions to dodge, line up your shots and survive. The signature of the game is the CHARGED BEAM: an energy gauge fills automatically over time and, at full charge, a huge piercing ray goes off on its own, tearing through several enemies at once and eating into bosses; you can also fire it a little earlier with a single press (spacebar on a keyboard, a dedicated zone under your finger) as soon as it is ready. The waves are VARIED and readable: fast FIGHTERS that charge, WEAVERS that zigzag in a sine wave, armoured TANKS spitting volleys, clusters of DRONES in formation, and indestructible neon asteroids and walls that scroll past and have to be steered around. Every cycle ends on a massive BOSS with a health bar and firing patterns, in at least two phases: the more you hurt it, the angrier it gets and the faster it fires. Beating it moves you on to a harder cycle, where density and speed step up — the "one more go" loop in its purest form. Your score is points: each enemy type is worth a CONSTANT amount (the costlier the enemy, the more it pays), and bosses hand out a large bonus; no pickup ever multiplies your score, which keeps the leaderboard fair. The controls work for touch as much as for the keyboard: on mobile, drag your finger in the control band to move the ship (the ship is never hidden under your finger) and tap the beam zone when it is ready; on a computer, the arrow keys or W A S D fly and the spacebar fires the beam. Explosions in sprays of particles, a bright piercing ray, measured screenshake, a synthesised score that tightens as the boss approaches: all the juice is there, never at the cost of readability, colour blindness included (each enemy family is told apart by shape as much as by colour). How a run ends
Losing your ship ends the run; there is no definitive ending, since beating a boss starts a harder cycle. Your score follows a constant scale per enemy type, with no multiplier, plus a large bonus for every boss downed — which keeps the leaderboard fair.
Tips & strategy
Save the beam for the big ones
Your automatic cannon handles light fighters perfectly well. Let the gauge fill and keep the charged ray for armoured tanks and bosses, where punching through several targets and eating a health bar genuinely changes the fight.
Read the sine waves
The weaving enemies do not charge straight at you: their path is regular and predictable. Do not chase them — park yourself where their curve will pass and let your automatic fire pick them off.
Go around the asteroids, do not fight them
Asteroids and walls are indestructible, so wasting your beam on them achieves nothing. Spot the opening in the formation early and slide into it: your priority is your positioning, not clearing the screen.
